Suzanne Simmons-Grimsrud
October 9, 1950 - December 6, 2022
With profound sadness, we announce the unexpectant passing of our mother. Born in San Francisco and raised in the Sunset, Susan attended Holy Name and Lincoln High School. After graduation, Susan married her high school sweetheart Steve Heryford and had 3 children. In 1977, Susan remarried Burt Olhiser and welcomed a daughter. Susan was employed at the Finishing Touch in Santa Rosa & Sonoma Joe’s in Petaluma for 10 years. In 1993, Susan married Marty Grimsrud and later moved to Daytona Beach. While in Florida, she worked at the historic Light House Landing restaurant. When Susan’s mother died in 2003, she returned to San Francisco and devoted the next decade of her life to caring for her hero, her father. In 2013, Susan and Marty purchased a home in the quaint rural town of Penngrove.
Susan was incredibly beautiful, sentimental, loyal, and funny. She took great pride in being the first to call you on your birthday to sing, hosting big family parties, and capturing memories on her disposable camera. Susan had exquisite taste and kept an immaculate home. She loved antiques, opals, gardenias, the Russian River, and watching Lifetime movies. But, above all, she was most proud of her children and grandchildren, making a point to be present for cheer competitions, sports games, Grandparent’s Day, and every milestone in between.
Susan is survived by her husband, Marty; children Johanna (Chris) Rasmussen, Steve (Michelle) Heryford, Kara Heryford, and Ali (Gabe) Cruz. Grandchildren Ashley Browne, Emma & Evan Rasmussen, Rhett & Peyton Heryford, Mia Manamea, Bella, Mariah, & Eva Cruz. Stepdaughters Amber Cao and Elaine Chyr. Siblings Karen, Judi, George, Theresa, & Colleen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat & Dolly Simmons, birthmother Millicent Loewenstein, and brothers Patrick Simmons & Mark Kibler. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm on Feb. 11, 2023, at Holy Name Church in S.F., followed by a luncheon at the Irish Cultural Center. Please contact Johanna at 650-537-3545 for more details.
