Edward L. Barber passed away at home on Wednesday February 1, 2023, after 90 years and a full life.

He was born on July 30, 1932, in Seattle, WA to Ellison and Anna Barber.

After WWII the family moved to San Francisco, Ed attending Lincoln High School. With lifelong boyhood friends, Ed left school before graduating to enlist in the Air Force. Serving in the Philippine­s during the Korean War, he would become a Supply Sergeant and earn his GED.

After completing his service, Ed worked for PG&E as a lineman and at United Airlines as an interior’s technician.

In 1956 Ed married the love of his life, Arlene (Saroyan). They would settle in Pacifica for the next 60 plus years, making many dear friends on their block.

He realized he enjoyed sales and over the years would work for Royal Typewriter, becoming a regional manager, both the San Francisco and Oakland Chambers of Commerce and prior to retirement, with Associated Office Products and Easterday Janitorial Supply.

Outside of work life Ed was a member of the San Francisco Hammerhead­s dive club, a Mason with the Columbia Brotherhoo­d Lodge and member of the Asiya Shrine Rod & Gun Club.

Perhaps Ed’s most fulfilling work was done as a member of St. John Armenian Apostolic Church in San Francisco. Joining the church’s Mr. and Mrs. Club, Ed and Arlene made many treasured life-long friendship­s and Ed held various positions on the church’s Parish Council.

Ed is survived by his wife, Arlene. They had three children, Daniel (19601976), Nola (Jim) and E.J. (Siobhan). He was also immensely proud of his three grandsons. Daniel, Joseph and Lucas. He is also survived by sister Shirley Taylor, brother-in-law Jerry Saroyan, nephew Rick Taylor (Judy), niece Kathy Taylor and nephew David Taylor (Virginia) and all their children, whom he loved dearly.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2023, at St. John’s Armenian Apostolic Church in San Francisco, 275 Olympia Way, San Francisco
