Elisabeth Hipp
July 8, 1932 - February 1, 2023
On Wednesday February 1st, Elisabeth Anna Hipp (Mom, Oma, Grandma, Betty, Liz, and Lisbet), passed peacefully in her sleep at Sunrise of Burlingame Memory Care Unit, at the age of 90.
As a longtime Native San Franciscan, Mom had many fond memories growing up on 23rd and Potrero Avenue in the Mission District. She was a proud graduate of Mission High School Class of 1950, where she made many friends. Mom married her High School sweetheart, Richard Hipp in 1953 and lived a short, but pleasant time in Hawaii, during Richard’s Coast Guard service on Oahu.
Life in paradise ended and they returned to San
Francisco to start and raise their family. Employed part time with SF Chronicle for 35+ years as a classified ad taker, where Mom made many long lasting friendships.
Lived for 60+ years on “Phelan Ave” in the Westwood Park neighborhood. Made numerous neighborhood friends while walking her beloved dogs, Snoopy, Scooter, Chole , Feebie, and Stewie. She enjoyed her neighborhood knitting group and in earlier years, attending 49er games and the SF Symphony. She also enjoyed playing her piano.
Preceded in death by her true love, Richard, her parents Anna and Karl Eisele, her in-laws Doris and Emil Hipp, and her best friend and sister Dorothy
Sabini.
Survived by her sons Mark (Barbara), Eric (Karen), grandchildren Greg (Lori), Allison, Nicole (Mike), Kaitlin, Tim, Lisa (Nick), Erica, Emily and seven greatgrandchildren. Brother-inlaw Russ Sabini, nieces Liz Giavonetti (Al), Paula Sabini, and nephew Russell Sabini (Hilary).
Special thanks to all the caregivers at Sunrise who took great care of Mom for this past year. Also, a thank you to Sutter Hospice for Mom’s end of life care this past month.
Private services will be held. Donations in her memory to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
