Thomas Joesph LaGrave Sr., age 87, of South San Francisco, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, February 16, 2023, of natural causes. Thomas, fondly known as Tom or Tommy, was born to Frank and Lucille LaGrave on August 28, 1935, in San Francisco, California. He was a proud native of San Francisco, where he grew up in Butchertown and attended Polytechnic High School. Tom spent his working life as a butcher and teamster. He was very social and had many friends. He enjoyed engaging in organizations, including Native Sons of the Golden West, the San Francisco Baseball Old Timers Association, and the South San Francisco Elks Lodge. Thomas is survived by: His kind and loyal children: Janay, Tom Jr., Jeffrey, and Mark. His daughters-inlaw: Kathleen and Robin. His three grandsons: Joshua, Ben, and Lucas. His ex-wife Alla, and his beloved companion of 24 years, Carol Toomey, and her family.
Tom’s life was one of friendship, loyalty, and pride for his family. We all know that his
blue-collar roots and strong moral fiber were hallmarks of his life. Growing up as an only child in challenging times, Tom forged many loyal friendships over the years. Tom was so wellliked and connected that he will be missed by many. We will be having an evening Visitation from 4p-8p, and a Rosary / Vigil starting at 6pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Duggan’s Funeral home in Daly City. On Thursday, February 23, 2023, there will be a Funeral Mass at 10:30–11:30 a.m. at St. Roberts Catholic Church in San Bruno. After mass, we are planning a luncheon celebration of Tom’s life from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at Dominic’s Restaurant at Oyster Point South San Francisco.
