Rosemary “Rosie” West

January 25, 1952 - March 5, 2023

-

Rosie passed away on March 5th, 2023, at home and surrounded by family. Born in San Francisco, she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Holy Angels grammar schools and St. John’s Ursuline High School. She received a BS in Business Administration from SF State, going to night school while working full time.

After dating for 6 years, many of them long distance, she married her high school sweetheart, Steve West on August 24th, 1974. Rosie worked as an Administrative Manager at Bank of America from 1972-89 and at St. Robert’s School in San Bruno as a teacher’s aide from 1994-2007, where she was beloved by students and staff alike.

Family was always at the center of Rosie’s life. She helped raise her 7 younger siblings and then remained close to them in her adult life. She and Steve raised their three boys, Chris, Scott and Pat and welcomed their wives and 6 grandchildren. A perfect day for Rosie was relaxing in the sun with her family around her, a picnic lunch (with a salami sandwich) and a great book.

Rosie intuitively knew what people needed, finding great joy in helping others and putting them at ease with her warm and easy smile. She was a master organizer and planner, always prepared with a bottle of sunscreen, water bottles, kid snacks and a tub of Red Vines. Rosie was known for her cooking and hospitality. There was always a pot of chili with garlic bread and a place to stay for unexpected drop ins. Although she had a terrible sense of direction, Rosie could always point you accurately to a full bowl of M&Ms she filled for family gatherings. At weddings and parties, she was the first to enter the dance floor and loved all music with a beat. She was active in numerous groups through the St. Robert’s Parish including the Women’s Guild, Inbetweeners and book clubs.

Rosie battled Alzheimer’s Disease for 15 years. We are so very grateful to the family, friends and caregivers who cared for her and supported our family on this difficult journey. Thank you.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Alfred Abrahamsohn and brother Michael. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Steve; her three boys, Chris (Emily), Scott (Lindsey) and Pat (Tori); 6 grandchildren, Sam, Cara, Jack, Evie, Graham and Arden; her siblings, George (Vickie), Linda (James), Donna (Doug), Lori (Mike), Teresa, and Paul (Janice) and 14 nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to help celebrate Rosie’s life with a Visitation at 5pm at St. Robert’s Church, 1380 Crystal Springs Rd. San Bruno, 94066, on March 23 followed by a vigil at 6pm. A Funeral Service will be held on March 24 at 10:30am at St. Robert’s.

The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St Robert’s School in San Bruno in lieu of flowers.
