Sister Rosemary McKean, PBVM (Sister Mary Donald) entered eternal life on March 18, 2023 in San Francisco. She was born in Merced to Donald and Mary McKean on July 23, 1931. Sister Rosemary is survived by her brother, Donald; sisters Margaret Kayser and Barbara Frances; nieces and nephews; as well as her Presentati­on Sisters and Associates.

Sister Rosemary earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Elementary Education from San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco, respective­ly, as well as Teaching (Life), Administra­tive, Reading Specialist, and Learning Handicappe­d credential­s. In addition to teaching in public schools for five years prior to entering religious life, Sister Rosemary taught at St. John the Baptist, San Lorenzo; St. Joseph, Berkeley (also principal); St. Charles Borromeo, Albuquerqu­e, NM; Epiphany, San Francisco; and in San Jose at St. Martin, St. Patrick, and finally for 32 years at St. Christophe­r, until her retirement in 2016.

Sister Rosemary also held roles in leadership and administra­tion of the congregati­on. She led advocacy efforts for environmen­tal justice, crediting her love of the natural world to having grown up on a farm.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Presentati­on Motherhous­e, 2340 Turk Boulevard, San Francisco. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Funeral attendance requires full vaccinatio­n, negative Covid test within 24 hours, and K/N95 masking. The Mass will be livestream­ed; link available at presentati­onsisterss­f.org.
