Frank Brucia

Frank Brucia, a loved and respected native San Franciscan, passed away on May 12, 2023 at the age of 106. His parents, Giuseppe and Angelina (Farina) Brucia pioneered the olive industry in California and were founding members of the San Francisco Opera.

After graduating from Galileo High School (‘35), Frank attended the University of California at Berkeley (‘39) and College of Physicians and Surgeons (‘44) now the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

During World War II, Frank served as an Army Air Force dental officer and as an administra­tor of Army Air Force stateside hospitals where he met his future wife, Helen Marie Glover. Overseas, he provided prosthetic care for Air Force personnel in Japan and Korea.

Upon returning stateside, he was discharged and married his sweetheart, Helen, at the Presidio in San Francisco (‘46). While his wife helped open his dental office in North Beach, he provided pediatric dental care for migrant workers’ children in the Sacramento Valley. He practiced general dentistry in North Beach for 47 years leaving his practice to his son, Dr. Jeff Brucia.

Throughout his life, Frank sought to improve the practice of dentistry and the health of his community. He was a charter member of the California Society of Anesthesio­logy in Dentistry and North East Medical Services (NEMS). He served on the Executive Committee of the S.F. Health Council and was an officer in the San Francisco Dental Society, California Dental Society, American Dental Associatio­n and Nagel Education Foundation. He has received numerous awards for his philanthro­pic work.

He is survived by his three children (Kristina, Ric and Jeff), six grandchild­ren and 5 great grandchild­ren.
