Richard Milton Sax
January 9, 1929 - May 22, 2023
Richard Milton Sax, passed away May 22nd at the age of 94. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia to Harry and Ida Sax, he was the youngest of four boys. Richard was married to the late Jacqueline Sax, for 42 years. He is survived by his daughters, Heidi Sax Valenzuela and Amy Sax Tamm; his grandchildren Alexandra Scoggin, Mukti Friden, Joshua Valenzuela, Dharma Tamm, & Sarah Atherton; as well as his seven greatgrandchildren.
Richard was a graduate of West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh, and received his Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. He would return to UC Berkeley in 1969 to serve as Assistant Dean for the School of Business Administration, until 1974.
Richard proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, entering as a Private and was Honorably Discharged as a Captain. He was a past President HaightAshbury Medical Center, a past Board Member for the American Conservatory Theater and the Curry Senior Center.
In 1977, Richard became a Realtor, spending the last 30 years as a Broker Associate with Pacific Union International.
During his decorated career, he served as past President of the San Francisco Association of Realtors, was named Director for Life and received the Life Time Achievement Award by the San Francisco Association of Realtors, was a member of the National Association of Realtors since 1994, was awarded the Distinguished Realtor of the Year in 2004 by the California Association of Realtors, was named Realtor Emeritus in 2018 and was awarded the first annual Distinguished Service Award by the San Francisco Association of Realtors in 2018.
A private graveside service was held at Hills of Eternity Cemetery in Colma.
Special appreciation to his daughters, Heidi and Amy, and his partner, Maria Marchetti, for their loving devotion to Richard.
