October 20, 1936 - July 3, 2023
Celia Maria Samaras Maneatis, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023 at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family. She was a long time resident of Hillsborough, CA.
Celia grew up in Oakland, CA. She graduated from Oakland High School and later from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. As a dedicated mother and advocate for child education, she was actively involved in the elementary school attended by her children and served as President of the PTA. As a promoter of charity, benevolence and philanthropic outreach, she was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Like her mother, Celia had a passion for cooking and was well known for her Greek dishes and desserts. She also enjoyed doing crafts, reading, going to the movies and entertaining her extended family. Coming from a family of engineers, she did all her work with great precision.
Celia touched the lives of many people. She was known by all to be a kind and caring person. She would talk with anyone and make them her friend. She went out of her way to help people who were in need.
Celia will be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her children Caroline, Stephen (Brenda) and John, and her grandchildren Nicole, Sebastian and Constantine. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
The Trisagion (memorial service) will be held on Thursday, July 13th at 7:00 PM, and the funeral services will be held on Friday, July 14th at 11:00 AM, both at The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002.
