Michael Salvatore Koomas March 2, 1949 - July 9, 2023
Michael (Mike) Salvatore Koomas, son of Helen & Emmanuel Koomas, passed away on July 9th, 2023, in his home in Pacifica, California from complications of myelofibrosis. Born on March 2, 1949 in San Francisco, CA, he attended Riordan High School. Michael was a retired Lieutenant in the San Francisco Fire Department and spent the majority of his career driving the Engine at Station 19.
Mike enjoyed being active with friends, especially running, biking, and playing table tennis. He was the family historian, researching his Greek and Italian ancestry and staying connected with his relatives near and far. Mike was an avid traveler, and had the good fortune to travel to almost every continent. He had a passion for meeting new people, cultivating a large network of friends from all walks of life, and hearing different perspectives. He will be remembered for his generosity and open-mindedness, as well as his positive outlook and gratitude for the life he had.
Mike is survived by his children Joey (Anjali) Koomas and Alyssa (David) Koomas and four grandchildren, Nico, Micah, Zephyr and Noa. He is also survived by his brother Steven (Sandy) Koomas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial will be held at 10am on July 29, 2023 at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, California 94014. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SF Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation at https://www.sffcpf. org/get-involved/donate/
