Charles “Charlie” Wolfe Cunningham

Charlie was born in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland on November 20, 1941. He attended Newbridge College, enjoyed rugby and sailing throughout his youth. Charlie left for the USA at 18 to live with his Uncle Joey and Aunt Irene Cunningham and attend USF. After a year, Charlie served in the US Marine Corps for four years, two active and two reserved. Charlie met Karen in SF and they married in 1966. They braved the start of their very cherished company in 1970, Cunningham Moving and Storage, where they worked side by side for 46 years. Charlie was well respected and loved in the industry and made an iconic name for himself in SF.

Charlie enjoyed golfing, traveling with Karen to Hawaii, Ireland, England, and cruising to the Caribbean, Europe and Alaska. At home, he enjoyed relaxing at his weekend getaway in Clearlake where he loved to teach his kids and grandkids to sail. He also had a penchant for disappeari­ng with Karen to Reno, Tahoe and Cache Creek to take in a bit of cards, a show and the buffets.

Charlie was dedicated to his life and community at St. Anne’s of the Sunset, where he and Karen and family enjoyed many years of faith, school, friends and love.

Charlie was predecease­d by his beloved wife Karen Anne Cunningham (née Phillips), his adored parents Garry and Winsome Cunningham, and his beautiful sister Susan Davies.

He is survived by his loving children Siobhán, Michelle (Martijn Blumenthal),

Chuck (Jamie), Gary (Mandy), Philip, Christophe­r (Michelle) Cunningham, Patrick Kelly (Kevin Parkin)

He is also survived by his cherished grandchild­ren Fiona, Andrew and Katelien Blumenthal, Thomas, Spencer, Jacob and Harrison Cunningham, Genevieve, Anne, Rebecca and Tessa Cunningham, Brendan and Grace Cunningham.

Lastly, he is survived by his sisters Mary Dignan (Fergus) and Tina Forsyth (David) and brother-In-Law Terence Davies as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins in the U.S., Ireland, Scotland, Wales and around the globe.

Charlie will be greatly missed for the loving gentleman he was to everyone he knew and met.

A celebratio­n of Charlie’s Life will be held at: St. Anne’s of the Sunset, 850 Judah Street, San Francisco. Rosary, December 12 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass, December 13 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Anne’s of the Sunset Church.
