Our beloved Papa, Fernando Cuadra, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Fernando was born in San Francisco, Calif., on November 24, 1933. He was the loving child of the late Anita Ortega and Fernando Cuadra. He was blessed with his brother, Jose Ramirez, and leaves behind his loving sister, Delia Childs (Dennis); adored niece, Denise Shapiro (Jon); heavenly godson, Dennis M. Childs; great-nieces, Drew and Zoey Shapiro; and greatnephe­w, Nicholas Childs.

Fernando was raised in San Francisco and after graduating from Polytech High School in 1951, he enrolled in the Marines. He started boot camp academy in San Diego at Camp Pendleton in 1953 and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1960. Upon his return to San Francisco, Fernando married his deceased and loving first wife, Marilyn Cuadra, and leaves behind three wonderful daughters during his marriage: Arlene, Sharon and Debra Cuadra (partner Chris McHale); grandchild­ren: Raquel and Adam; and great-grandchild­ren: Lilah and Alina.

Fernando found love again with his wife, Barbara Stack-Cuadra, where he gained three step-children, Billy Stack, John Stack and Laurie Clark; grandchild­ren, Sean Stack, Bobby Stack, Ryan Stack, James Clark and Natalie Clark; and great-grandchild­ren, Logan, Kamryn, Kayden and Liam Stack.

Fernando began his long history of impeccable work ethic with REA Express, starting in delivery and working his way up into management and supervisor roles, leading to his career as a Teamster Local 85 driver, where he retired after 35 years. Fernando cherished his summer trips shared with his daughters and Barbara, visiting places such as Disneyland, Palm Springs and Las Vegas, as well as accompanyi­ng Barbara on over twenty cruises through Panama, Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean’s and Mexico during their 35 years of marriage.

Fernando enjoyed reading the San Francisco Chronicle every day, keeping up with his favorite team, the 49ers, in the sports section and the late Herb Caen.

Fernando cherished his dog, Lola, and enjoyed their daily walks together.

Friends may visit on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 4-7 p.m., at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, with a Rosary Vigil at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 1 Elmwood Drive, Daly City, where services will conclude.
