Jackieline “Jackie” Goosby passed away peacefully in her home in San Francisco on December 22, 2023. She was 98 yrs old. Jackie was born in Tacoma, Washington and spent her youth there and in Los Angeles, where she made lifelong friends. She attended high school in San Francisco and shortly after she met and married her beloved husband, Dr. Zuretti “Zoo” Goosby. They were married until his death in 2000 and together nurtured a rich life filled with family, friends, and civic and political activities inspired by their commitment to equality and civil rights. She was devoted to her three sons, Zuretti “Zuey”, Eric and Kevin, and was lovingly cared for by them and her daughtersin-law Nancy Truelove and Brenda Goosby, and very special caregivers Sylvia and Marilou.

Jackie was a member of the De Young Museum Board, a founding member of the San Francisco Smart Set Chapter and an active member of Jack and Jill. She was a hard worker in every sense and a consummate hostess, known for her beautiful parties in her elegant home. Jackie demonstrated her love for her family and commitment to making the world more just and beautiful in her daily actions and through her relationships. She demonstrated how to contribute to her family and community by working diligently to support projects that grew equity in the world, cooking delicious food, gardening, making things beautiful and sharing bountifully. She recognized what made people special and was generous with her compliments. Guided by her curiosity, Jackie was a lifelong learner, devouring books and taking classes well into her 80s. She returned to college in her later years and earned a BS degree and completed coursework toward a graduate degree. Guided by her integrity and courage, she stretched beyond her comfort zones.

Family was foremost for Jackie. She believed that the ‘family that eats together, stays together’ and, after Zoo died, she instituted a new family dinner practice, gathering on the 3rd Saturday of every month come rain or shine. Attendance was mandatory for all family members - she would accept no excuses - and those dinners were delicious with food and rich with stories, memories, and music.

Jackie’s presence was warm, supportive and ebullient. Her unique spirit shone through her kind gestures, the generosity with which she opened her beautiful home, her lifelong friendships and her love of family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nola Mae Smith, her husband, Zuretti Goosby, and her daughter in law Sara O’Hara-Goosby. She is survived by sons Kevin, Eric and Zuretti, her daughters in law Nancy Truelove and Brenda Goosby, her grandchildren Jenckyn Goosby and husband Dean Preston; Dara Goosby and her former husband Kokou Katamani; Eric Nicholas Goosby and partner Lucy Toyama; Zoe Goosby and husband Jimmy Negandhi; and her great grandchildren Skye, Kofi, Kira and Selasi. She is also survived by her ‘extended family children’ Karen Hudson-Freeman and Paul Hudson and her very dear friends Stephanie Suacci and Rhea Sandstrom.

Per Jackie’s specific wishes, no service is planned. A Celebration of her Life for immediate family and close friends is being planned for the future.
