Wolfgang “Mike” Lusse

Mike passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side. Besides his wife, Pat, he is survived by his daughter, Monique Lusse, of Rio Vista, Calif., and his family in Europe, namely, sister, Marlies Reiche; niece, Manuela Reiche (Ben); niece, Dania Reiche (Deitrich); grandniece­s, Lili and Ella deVries.

As a young man, Mike apprentice­d in the shipping industry in Hamburg, Germany; he immigrated to San Francisco in 1956 with his first wife and daughter. He was fortunate to find a position with General Steamship Corporatio­n as claims adjuster in the first week. He was promoted to the main office after a year where he worked for many years. In the late 1990’s, he went to work for Atlantic Container Transporta­tion. He then moved to Blue Star Line where he retired in 1996 after 40 years in the steamship business.

He met his wife, Pat, in 1973 and they married at St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church in 1974. They settled on Telegraph Hill where they lived for 33 years. In 2011 they moved to San Francisco Towers.

After retirement Mike volunteere­d at his church where he supervised a major renovation and at the National Park Service where he translated into German many informatio­nal brochures. He enjoyed these activities very much. During these years, he and Pat traveled to many parts of the world. After moving to San Francisco Towers, he was active on various committees and enjoyed life there.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary the Virgin Church, 2325 Union Street on February 9, 2024, at 11.00 followed by interment in the columbariu­m. A reception will follow in the Great Room at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to St. Mary the Virgin Church, 2325 Union Street, San Franciso, Calif. 94123 or the Employee Appreciati­on Fund at San Francisco Towers, 1661 Pine Street, San Francisco, Calif. 94109.
