The radiant life of Natividad Sebastiana Jordan closed its final chapter after 88 years, on December 31, 2023. She was lovingly known as “Chiqui” and “Nati” to her family and friends.

Natividad was born in Madrid, Spain, during the time of the Spanish Civil War. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and flourished as an ardent teacher, often seeking out children in rural villages to give them the gift of education she so treasured. She later earned her Master’s degree from Middlebury College.

Alfredo Jordan, a dashing Mexican-American teacher studying in Spain, won her heart. He was captivated by Chiqui’s zealous spirit and thirst for study. She married Alfredo Jordan in 1966. Their son, Alfredo Manuel, completed the family three years later.

The couple settled in San Francisco, where Chiqui thrived for over fifty years. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Emydius Church where she and Alfredo were weekly communicants.

Chiqui emerged as a student favorite, teaching Spanish and literature at City College of San Francisco, with joy, laughter, and a devotion to sharing knowledge for more than thirty years. Upon retirement, she was honored for her dedication and career achievements.

Chiqui and Alfredo relished the wonders of wanderlust, and traveled the world indulging their passion for museums, opera, film and music. Enthusiasm, curiosity and a sense of adventure were the way of The Jordans. Their genial hilltop home, with city lights dazzling below, was a welcoming destination for a fascinating circle of friends, students and visitors from foreign lands.

Chiqui is back in the embrace of her husband, Alfredo; and her son, Alfredo Manuel, who both passed on in 2021. She is survived by her grandson, Andika Gabriel; and her family in Spain, especially her beloved niece, Maria Victoria; and nephews, Francisco and Manuel.

Rest in peace, querida Chiqui, La Eterna Sonrisa! Our Precious friend with The Eternal Smile. You are forever in our hearts!
