Peter Roosakos passed away from cancer peacefully in his home on January 23, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born in San Francisco to Mary and Aleck Roosakos, Peter grew up in Upper Market. He attended John Muir Elementary, went on to Everett Junior High School, and then Commerce High School, where he played on the football team’s offensive line, ran the 200 on the track team, competed on the swim team, and played the trumpet in the band. Peter spent many hours of his childhood helping out at his family’s restaurant called U and I Cafe on Market Street in the City. In 1951, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War. Upon returning from the Navy, he attended Lenhardt Trade School for court reporting. He became a court reporter at San Francisco City Hall, where he worked for over 30 years.

Peter was always very active at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and sang in the choir. It was through choir that he met and fell in love with his beloved wife, Beverly. They married on February 20, 1966. They briefly lived in Daly City before making their home in Millbrae in 1970.

Peter was a devoted and loving husband, father, and Papou, who guided his family selflessly with patience, kindness, and respect. He remained active at Holy Trinity through the choir, as Board President, and as a loyal parishioner. He and Beverly were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for their countless years of dedicated service.

He loved reading books, especially ones about history, politics, and sports and was always up-to-date on current events. While he loved watching sports, he was especially a fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He regularly went to the gym and library, traveled and had coffee with their cherished friend group, played golf with his friends, sons, and granddaughters, and spent quality time with his family.

He was preceded in death by exactly two years to the date by his wife, Beverly; and survived by sons, Alex and Gail with granddaughters, Ella and Lily; Peter and Melissa; brother, Paul Roosakos; brother-in-law, George Photopoulos; his goddaughters, Tiffany Sarris and Stephanie Zervos; and many well-loved extended family and friends.

Everyone who knew him thought of him as a true gentleman.

Trisagion service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhood Way, San Francisco. A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, followed by interment at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma. Memorial donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
