Lynn Curtis
April 29, 1947 - December 25, 2023
Lynn Curtis, a well-known artist and Orinda resident, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. She will be profoundly missed by her many close friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Kerry; her children, Becky, Lisa and Chris and their spouses; and her six grandchildren.
Ruth Lynn Walton, “Lynn,” was born in Abington, Pa., to parents, Jack Walton and Ruth (Scott). She attended Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, in a joint degree program with University of Pennsylvania, where she met Kerry in 1969.
Lynn and Kerry soon married and moved to San Francisco, where she continued painting and became active in the art community. In 1971, Becky was born. They moved to Orinda the following year, then Lisa arrived in 1974. In 1980, the family moved to London for two years, where Lynn utilized the home’s art studio and darkroom to continue with her creative work. After Chris was born in 1982, they returned to Orinda.
Lynn’s art took many forms: paintings, drawings, photography, prints, movies, writing, and poetry. She curated art shows for organizations including the Commonwealth Club of California, served as president of San Francisco Women Artists, and participated in art exhibitions and East Bay Open Studios, through which she sold many paintings.
She was laid to rest on December 30, at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 18, at 12 p.m. at the Orinda Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
