It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Welch, 94, of Pleasanton, Calif. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, she leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss her. She was born Shirley Lois Green in Crockett, Calif., to Volney Leroy Green and Maria Azevedo Green on February 23, 1929. After graduating from John Swett High School, she followed in the steps of her parents and worked at C&H Sugar for several years. She was proud to be a part of the C&H family and a member of the Crockett community. After marrying and raising her three daughters, she rejoined the workforce with the Pleasanton School District. She was warm, caring and helpful to decades of Amador Valley High School graduates and employees who will remember her as Mrs. Welch in the Counseling Office. With a great love of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and celebrations in general, she made every holiday so special for her immediate and extended family. Always adventurous, she would often try new recipes at formal dinner parties, and she was particularly famous for her incredible desserts.

She is survived by her husband, Robert James Welch; her three daughters, Claire DaRe (Mark Krumrey) from her first marriage to Aldo Ray, and Margo Kieser and Lenore Hagerty (Jack Hagerty) from her 70-year marriage to Robert; grandchildren, Heather Fitch, Liam Hagerty, Bronwyn Hagerty, India Kieser, Teddy Kieser, Charles Kieser; and four great grandchildren, Lily, Walker, Daisie and Emilie.

A memorial service is being planned for February 25, 2024 in Pleasanton.
