Patricia “Pat” Margaret Dowd, born April 13, 1946, in San Francisco, passed away February 12, 2024, at her home in San Mateo, at the age of 77.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles Dowd. She is survived by her son, Kevin Dowd (Jerusha); her daughter, Jennifer Dowd-Kim (Jai Young Kim); grandchildren, Anthony Dowd, Alexandra Dowd, Sophia Dowd, and Journey Kim; her sisters, Carol Jones (the late Vince) and Anne Kidd (the late Steve); brother, John Molloy (Susanna); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, many of whom still affectionately called her, “Molly”.

A longtime San Francisco Sunset District resident, Pat was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Presentation High School. After high school, she started working for Levi Strauss, but soon left to get married and start a family. She returned to work in the 1980s, in the banking industry, at Bank of America and ultimately retiring from the SF Police Credit Union.

Pat loved traveling with her late husband, Charlie. They summered together with their kids in Lake Wildwood for many years, went on 17 cruises, and enjoyed countless trips to visit Kev and the grandkids in Montreal. She relished in time spent with her sisters, Anne, and Carol: Nevada City, Indian Springs, and Pat’s living room were favorite destinations. She loved her Maltese dog, the late Madigan, and her collection of thousands of Santas that she proudly displayed every Christmas. Pat regularly hosted “Taco Night,” a tradition started by her and her late husband, Charlie. Friends and Family would gather at the house to catch up, eat tacos, and celebrate that the family from Montreal were in town. In the last year of her life, Pat’s spirits were lifted every #NanaThursday, when she helped babysit her newest granddaughter, Journey Charlize. Nana and Journey were together enjoying Sesame Street on what would be her last #NanaThursday, February 8th.

In 2017, Pat was diagnosed with unspecified interstitial lung disease, a disorder that causes progressive (irreversible) scarring of lung tissue. It was a cruel disease. She relied on an oxygen machine to breathe. Over the years as the disease progressed, the scarring worsened until her body couldn’t fight anymore. We are proud of mom for the brave battle she waged for every breath she took since her diagnosis.

Friends and family are invited to Celebrate Pat’s life on her 78th birthday, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Main Chapel at the Italian Cemetery, 540 F St. Colma, with private interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Muttville, P.O. Box 410207, San Francisco, Calif. 94141.
