Please see original obituary in legacy.com dated 2/22/24 for list of relatives and other information. Mamma Rossi lived a funfilled life... Born in Mich. to wonderful, German immigrants, her parents were Adolph and Gretta Shleh, from the Black Forest in Germany. Lore arrived in San Francisco in 1959, and moved into a great apartment in Telegraph Hill. She loved zipping around in her Vespa in a bright red dress. (Red, was her signature color). One day she drove directly to Gino and Carlo, where she met the love of her life, Donato Rossi, Proprietor and Owner of his famous establishment, Gino and Carlo.

Back in those days, the times were different, Mamma Rossi always wore dressy gloves, and Our Papa Donato when behind the plank of Gino and Carlo, wore a red vest and black bow tie. Donato Rossi (smitten at the first sight of Lore) in his heavy, Italian accent, said his first words to Mamma Lore, “Have another drink.” Six months later, they eloped to Reno, Nev., drove back to North Beach, and nine months later, Heidi was born, then Marco, and then Tina...

What a full-of-fun life they all had traveling back and forth to Italy and Germany often - but Mamma on her own was a world traveler, an exceptional oil painter, and she loved to visit her favorite establishments in North Beach like Original Joes, Sodinis, Gino and Carlo (of course), Ideale, Sotto Mare, and Firenze by Night, in her usual red attire, gloves, and sipping her favorite Negroni!

The Funeral will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter and Paul Church in North Beach. In lieu of flowers please donate to Salesian Boys and Girls Club in North Beach.
