03/22/1932 - 07/02/2024
Martin Francis Connelly, 92 passed away peacefully at his home in Menlo Park on July 2nd, 2024. The only child of Joseph and Mabel (née Garrity), Martin was born in Santa Barbara on March 22, 1932. He had a distinguished and impactful career in media and sales. Before retirement, Martin was CEO of FitCom, a company committed to health and fitness for corporations. He also was a consultant to the Board of Directors of Disney. Previously, he was President and CEO of Delta Television Corporation in Memphis from 1980 until its sale in 1986. During the 70s, he was President and CEO of Petry Television Inc (NYC) a then-leading U.S. advertising sales representation firm which served more than 150 television stations in 35 states. Before this time, he held various roles at Metromedia, including Executive VP and General Manager of KTTV Channel 11(LA) and Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, NYC.
A visionary and compassionate leader, Martin was always invested in the development of those around him, and in their success in both their business and personal lives. This generosity of spirit extended well past his career. After retirement, he followed his passions. He acquired his M.A. (Psychology) at USF and eventually worked there as Guest Lecturer and Adjunct Professor. He also became involved with Veterans Affairs Palo Alto, Menlo Park and was consultant to the Black Coaches Association (NCAA). An avid athlete, he was twice a Golden Gloves champion, ran 10 NY Marathons, and fitness was always a part of his life.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife, Priscilla Lee, of 43 years. In their early years, they resided at the historic Hotel des Artistes, and spent summers in their ranch in
Sedalia, Colorado. Eventually, Martin and Priscilla made their home in Northern California, where he grew up. Through the years, they were always accompanied by their succession of cherished dogs: Khan, Shandor, Shasta, and Cara. Their homes were visited by family and friends whose lives were enriched by their warmth and generosity. When asked the secret to having a happy life, Martin replied, “I would say honesty, trust, humor, good food and a great wife. I grew up having a small family, so you have become my family.”
