Italo Zarich
05/19/1933 - 06/23/2024
At 91 years old, our beloved Italo passed peacefully at UCSF Hospital surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. A native of Chersano, Istria he was known for his kindness, humor, generosity, work ethic and his profound love for his family. Italo was a master tailor and clothier who began his profession at just fourteen years old. His adventurous spirit and desire for opportunity led him to be the first in his family to immigrate to the United States in 1955. Once in North Beach he met the love of his life, Liliana. Italo and Liliana were married on May 15, 1960 and purchased a home in the Sunset where they raised their sons Victor and Paul.
Italo worked at various fine men’s clothiers before opening his own men’s clothing store in Millbrae. Away from work Italo was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed listening to music, playing the accordion, and enjoying Liliana’s fine cuisine.
Italo’s greatest joy was being Nonno to his grandchildren who were fortunate enough to spend time with him almost daily.
Italo is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Liliana, his sons Victor (Monika) and Paul (Jennifer), his grandchildren Christina, Daniela, Antonio, Giovanni, and Gino Zarich. He is survived by his loving siblings Ennio (Marianne), Alma (Ernst), Maria (John), Silvanna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Vittorio and Maria, his sister Bruna, brother Piero, and brother-in-law John Lucero.
Italo was loved and will be missed dearly. In his words, “It was a great ride.”
