Jurrjens, 2011 All-star, sent to minors

-

From National League All-star to minor-leaguer in 9½ months.

That’s the career arc of Atlanta right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens, who was optioned to Triple-a Gwinnett after lasting three-plus innings against the Dodgers on Monday night in his latest poor performance.

Jurrjens, who led the Braves with 13 wins last season despite two trips to the disabled list, is 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in four starts. He retired only seven of the 17 batters he faced Monday and was charged with five runs on nine hits in a 7-2 loss.

Narveson done: Milwaukee left-hander Chris Narveson, a member of the team’s rotation the past two seasons, will have surgery on the torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder and miss the rest of the season.

He made the decision to have surgery after receiving a second opinion from specialist Lewis Yocum, who confirmed the diagnosis of the team physician. Bay to DL: Mets left fielder Jason Bay broke a rib Monday night when he fell facefirst as a ball hit by the Giants’ Gregor Blanco went off his glove for a two-run double. The Mets placed Bay and starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Pelfrey has swelling in his right elbow, and general manager Sandy Alderson says a torn ligament has not been ruled out. Bray hurt: The Reds put left-handed setup man Bill Bray on the 15-day DL before their game with the Giants. He has a strained groin that has bothered him since spring training.

Right-hander J.J. Hoover was recalled from the minors. Briefly: The Diamondbacks called up former Giants pitcher Joe Martinez from Triple-a. … Outfielder Brett Carroll accepted an outright assignment by the Nationals to Triple-a Syracuse.
