Yo-Yo Ma, Los Lobos on bill for new Stanford hall opening in January.

Bing Concert Hall, Stanford University’s new 844seat performanc­e venue, will be host to a range of musical artists including pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the Mingus Big Band, Alarm Will Sound, Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet during its 2013 inaugural season.

The season, which will run from Jan. 11 to June 1, will be overseen by Stanford Live, a new campus organizati­on that succeeds Stanford Lively Arts with Bing Hall as its home.

The hall’s opening weekend, Jan. 11-13, will include an event hosted by Anna Deavere Smith with appearance­s

by Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and members of the Stanford Symphony Orchestra; a concert by Los Lobos; a community open house; and a showcase for the Stanford music department.

The season will also include the world premieres of two chamber operas by Stanford Professor Jonathan Berger, the U.S. premiere of a commission­ed work by composer Steve Reich, and a seasonlong Beethoven Project by

the Stanford Symphony Orchestra led by Jindong Cai.
