Alabama forces WCWS Game 3

Jackie Traina and Amanda Locke each had three-run doubles and Alabama forced a decisive third game in the Women’s College World Series finals by winning 8-6 over Oklahoma (54-9) in Oklahoma City.

Traina laced a double to the warning track in left-center field with two outs in the second inning, putting the secondseeded Crimson Tide (59-8) ahead to stay.

Stanford right-hander Mark Appel, Florida catcher Mike Zunino — the son of former Cal third baseman Greg Zunino — and N.C. State lefty Carlos Rodon are the finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the nation’s top amateur baseball

player.

Cal announced the 2012 class for its Athletic Hall of Fame, highlighted by former AllAmerica basketball forward Lamond Murray. Joining Murray are Haley Cope (swimming), Jocelyn Forest (softball), Mike Harrison (baseball), Bruce Kennedy (track and field) and Anne Walker (golf ). Stu Gordon (baseball) will receive the Hall of Fame Service award. Horse racing: Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who will saddle Optimizer in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, was hospitalized after one of his other horses at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., reared up and kicked him in the head. Lukas, 74, said he expects to return to the trackWednesday.

Cycling: Daniel Moreno Fernandez of Spain led a late breakaway finish to Saint-Felicien to win the second stage of the Criterium du Dauphine. Bradley Wiggins of Britain retained the overall lead. Track: Reigning Olympic champion Dayron Robles of Cuba withdrew from the 110meter hurdles at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York this weekend with what meet officials said was a slight injury. Basketball: A masseuse was pronounced dead at a South Florida hospital after collapsing at the home of Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh. Police said there were no signs of foul play. Obituary: Former Mariners general manager Hal Keller, 84, died in his sleep at his home in Sequim, Wash. He was being treated for esophageal cancer.
