Impressive lineup will christen hall
Pianist Lang Lang, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, mezzo-sopranos Joyce DiDonato and Stephanie Blythe, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis are among the artists scheduled for the inaugural season of Weill Hall, the 1,400-seat performance venue at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center.
The new facility, named for Joan and Sanford I. Weill, will open Sept. 29 with a weekend’s worth of performances by Lang, the Santa Rosa Symphony led by music director Bruno Ferrandis, and Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas.
Other orchestras and ensembles slated for the season — which was programmed by Robert Cole, the former longtime director of Cal Performances — include the San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. The hall will also become the regular performance home of the Santa Rosa Symphony.
Visiting soloists include violinists Anne-Sophie Mutter and Vadim Repin, vocalist Barbara Cook, soprano Karina Gauvin and Ma.
