Ford gets MRI — might miss some of regular season

Receiver Jacoby Ford had an MRI exam on his sprained foot Saturday and could miss some of the regular season, but head coach Dennis Allen said he didn’t have a timetable just yet.

Meanwhile, backup running back Mike Goodson (shoulder) and Matt Leinart (finger) were both doing OK after getting hurt Friday night against the Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz. They should both return to action Saturday in the third preseason game, against the Lions.

Raiders fans would like to know what’s wrong with quarterback Carson Palmer.

He looked shaky, making a bad decision and overthrow to a covered Richard Gordon that resulted in an interception. Palmer also missed an open Darren McFadden on a sideline pass that should have been a touchdown (McFadden caught the pass out of bounds). Palmer has two interceptions and no touchdowns in two games, but Allen is not concerned.

“I think Carson is still learning the offense,” Allen said “I have no reservations about Carson Palmer. He has had a good camp.”

Palmer played the entire first half, completing 13 of 24 passes for 107 yards. The Raiders got to the 1- and 3-yard lines and settled for field goals.

“There are some things that we can clean up that were pretty obvious,” Palmer said. “It was a good learning film.”

Allen said one thing he learned on film was that McFadden was closer to making the first down on three plays on which he needed a yard and was denied. McFadden finished with 51 yards rushing and receiving in a little more than a quarter of action, and apparently will get more short-yardage carries.

“We’re counting on him to be our bell cow,” Allen said. Briefly: Allen said starting outside linebacker Aaron Curry (knees) returned to camp after being treated in Los Angeles, and ran Saturday. Curry has missed all of camp. … Cornerback Bryann McCann will replace Ford as the primary punt- and kickoffreturn man. … Besides leading the team again with seven catches for 43 yards, rookie Rod Streater made quite an impression on the play on which he chased down Kerry Rhodes after 60 yards on an interception return to prevent a touchdown. “That was outstanding,” Allen said.
