Marin Catholic reaches semis

The final days of Jared Goff’s storied high school career are numbered and apparently he’s hoping to make the most of them.

The Marin CatholicKe­ntfield quarterbac­k was at his best during a 59-6 North Coast Section Division III quarterfin­al home win over Miramonte-Orinda on Saturday afternoon.

Goff, who has committed to play at Cal, completed 15 of 19 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns before being pulled with 6:20 left in the third quarter.

Colton Hanley, Goff’s top target, had three catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yarder on which he broke three tackles before reaching the end zone.

Akili Terry rushed for 123 yards and one touchdown and also caught a TD pass.

Other standouts for the top-seeded Wildcats (11-1) were Sam Killpack (seventh intercepti­on, fumble recovery), Morgan Mahalak (two TD runs) and Anthony Tiusti (57-yard intercepti­on return).

Miramonte (7-5) scored on the first play of the game, an 82-yard pass from Drew Anderson to Zati Williams. Marin Catholic’s secondary had a good day after that, intercepti­ng five passes.

Marin Catholic hosts third-seed Cardinal Newman (11-1) in next week’s semifinal.

Division I: The much-anticipate­d contest between James Logan-Union City and Freedom-Oakley was all the home team as Logan took a 27-2 halftime lead and won 33-18. Northweste­rn-bound Warren Long was too much for the Falcons (9-3) with 290 yards rushing and three touchdowns, including runs of 65 and 58 yards for the Colts (11-1), who travel to California-San Ramon (9-2) for a Saturday semifinal. … A 78-yard TD run by Alejandro Apodaca gave upstart Amador Valley-Pleasanton (8-4) the lead for good in a 28-25 upset win at San Ramon Valley-Danville. Amador Valley travels to top-seed De La Salle-Concord (11-0) on Friday.

Other NCS games: Top Division III seed El Cerrito rode a couple first-half touchdowns from Derik Calhoun then rode its superb defense to defeat visiting Bishop O’Dowd-Oakland 19-7. Adarius Pickett added a 3-yard run for El Cerrito (12-0), which plays Analy-Sebastopol in a Friday semifinal at De Anza-Richmond. … Danny Brink had a 50-yard TD run and Matteo Abreu added a 56-yard intercepti­on return for a score in the second half to key a 29-25 win for St. Helena (11-1) over host and two-time defending champion Salesian-Richmond (9-2), which received an 80-yard first-quarter TD run by De’Angelo Hernandez.

Central Coast Section: In Division III play, Sobrato (8-3) won its first postseason football game 40-17 over visiting Riordan despite 352 yards rushing for the Crusaders (3-8). Sobrato quarterbac­k Michael Bosksnick accounted for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Chris Hall led Riordan with 15 carries for 157 yards; teammate Tre Gunter had 20 carries for 132 yards. … In Division IV play, second seed Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton (10-1) received two touchdowns apiece from Kevin Donahoe and Andrew Segre to easily down visiting Pacific Grove 48-15 in first-round play. The Gators will play sixth-seed Soquel, which upset No. 3 Carmel 49-42 on Friday night. … In Division II play on Friday, top-seeded St. Francis broke two school records on defense during a 42-0 win over visiting Overfelt-San Jose. The Lancers held Overfelt to 7 total yards and 3 on the ground. Alex Andrighett­o rushed for two touchdowns, and Austin Guibor and Devin Hurtado each had one for St. Francis (6-5). Guibor also caught a touchdown pass from Mike Lauck. Austin Martin led the St. Francis defense with nine tackles and a sack. The Lancers will host Aragon-San Mateo, a 35-21 winner over Leland-San Jose, in a Friday semifinal game.

CCS volleyball finals

Division II: Mitty, ranked fifth in the nation by MaxPreps, improved to 34-0 with a 22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 victory over third-seeded Los Gatos at Independen­ce High in San Jose. … Clare Powers led the Monarchs with 16 kills, and Heather Lowell added 14. … Riana Brennan provided the firepower for Los Gatos (23-7) with 26 kills. … The win erased a two-year drought in which Mitty did not reach the finals. The Monarchs have won 18 section titles in 22 years.

Division III: Valley Christian routed Sacred Heart Cathedral 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 at Independen­ce. … Ronkia Stone led the Warriors (31-7) with 11 kills. … The Irish (27-8) received a team-high eight kills from Courtney Wong. … Valley Christian captured its first title since 1986. … SHC was making its ninth straight finals appearance (six wins).

Division IV: Sacred Heart Prep (30-5) withstood a furious rally from Harbor-Santa Cruz (30-6) to win 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23. … SHP’s Sonia Abuel-Saud had two kills in the final stages.
