88, died November 17, 2012 surrounded by family in Sonoma, California. Mr. Popovich was born Oct 5, 1924 in Yugoslavia to Petar and Ilinka Popovich, before immigratin­g to the United States at the age of 11 to live with his aunt and uncle in Michigan. Mr. Popovich is a veteran of World War II, and spent his career working at General Motors, retiring as an estimator after decades of loyal work. He patiently pursued the affections of Mildred Vukmirovic­h, who became his wife in 1953. The two raised three children, Sandra, Michael, and Peter, who among them made them grandparen­ts five times over. In 2010 he became a great-grandfathe­r as well. Upon his retirement, Mr. Popovich and his wife moved to San Francisco, California, where he was able to devote more time to his favorite hobby, bowling. He acquired a part-time job as the front desk attendant at the University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry. After completing 26 years of work there, he was celebrated for his second retirement by friends, family, and coworkers with a luncheon just last month. Friends are invited to visit and view at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20 at St. John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 900 Baker St., San Francisco, CA 94115 . The funeral will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in the Serbian Cemetery, 1801 Hillside Boulevard, Colma, CA 94014. A reception will follow all services back at the St. John's Cathedral Hall.
