Yellow Owl Workshop expands into the kitchen.

Inspired by the copper cookware, silver cutlery, matte flatware and brass serving

dishes of her Missouri childhood, Mission District artist Christine Schmidt of Yellow

Owl Workshop has created graphic recipe cards to honor her past.

“The finish of the cards is inspired by the shine of fish scales after a haul from the local

fish markets and the patina of an aged silver teapot brimming with freshly brewed

afternoon tea,” Schmidt said.

Known primarily for her rubber stamps and stamp ink pads

and greeting cards, Schmidt has expanded her line to include

decorative gold pendants and a carve-your-own stamp kit. She

had her mother’s old wooden “packed to the brim” recipe box

in mind when she finalized the card designs, and hopes that

customers will discover stories and connections and share food memories.

“I thought it was really important to find a way of preserving handed-down recipes,”

she said, “and make sure they were displayed in a way that did them justice.”

Family or friends’ treasured Thanksgiving or holiday recipes deserve nothing less.
