A man who was shot and killed in Menlo Park in an apparent robbery was identified Sunday as Carey Cudlip of Newark, according to the San Mateo County coroner’s office.

Cudlip, 42, and a woman were sitting in a car parked on the 300 block of Ivy Drive in the city’s Belle Haven neighborhood when at least two people came up to them about 6:30 p.m. Saturday and demanded valuables, authorities said.

During the holdup, one of the assailants shot and killed the man. They fled on foot with the woman’s purse, said Menlo Park police Cmdr. Dave Bertini.

No arrest has been made in the slaying, the second in Menlo Park this year.

In June, 19-year-old alleged gang member Jesus Molina was shot and killed while moving his car outside a party on the 1300 block of Madera Avenue in the same neighborhood.

On Monday, three men and a woman were arrested in a connection with a shooting on the 1200 block of Madera.

There were two homicides in the city in 2011.
