Suspects held in 2 slayings in 2 days

A suspect has been arrested in the stabbing death of a woman in San Jose, police said Sunday.

Martha Casillas, 39, was found mortally wounded on the 900 block of Dakota Drive shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, said San Jose police Sgt. Heather Randol. Casillas died at the scene.

An acquaintan­ce of Casillas was arrested on suspicion of murder and was booked at Santa Clara County Jail. His name and relationsh­ip with the victim were not disclosed.

The slaying is the second in San Jose in just over a day in which a suspect known to the victim has been arrested.

About 9:40 p.m. Friday, Anthony Zumini, 46, of San Jose was shot and killed on the 900 block of Gilchrist Drive.

Police later arrested Zumini’s son, Andrew Zumini, 27, of San Jose, in connection with the slaying.

Zumini is also being held without bail at Santa Clara County Jail.

Police did not disclose a motive in either slaying.
