Boardwalk crash: The driver of a car that plowed through crowds on the Venice Beach boardwalk must stand trial on charges of murder in the death of a newlywed woman and assault with a deadly weapon involving more than a dozen other tourists and vendors who were injured, a judge ruled Wednesday. Nathan Campbell, 38, was bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing of the case before Superior Court Judge Antonio Barretto. Campbell also will face 10 counts of leaving the scene.

Fraud charges: A former Georgia banker accused of stealing millions from investors before vanishing for 18 months pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal bank fraud charges and agreed to remain jailed without bond pending trial. Though prosecutors say he misspent, embezzled and lost $21 million, Aubrey Lee Price, 47, was able to show the court that he doesn’t have enough money to hire a lawyer.

Helicopter crash: A Navy helicopter with five crew members went down in the Atlantic off the Virginia coast during a routine mission Wednesday, killing two crew members and injuring two, the U.S. Navy said. Rescuers were still looking for a fifth person. One of the four crew members who were hoisted from the chilly, 42-degree waters by a Navy helicopter died in a civilian hospital, the Navy said in a statement. The other three were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Teen fitness: Young teens aren’t exactly embracing the government’s Let’s Move mantra, the latest fitness data suggest. Only 1 in 4 U.S. kids aged 12 to 15 meet the recommendations — an hour or more of moderate to vigorous activity every day. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta suggest obesity may have decreased slightly among some kids but the overall rate for children aged 2 to 19 is 17 percent, or about 12.5 million obese kids.

Star Spangled Banner: The original, handwritten manuscript of “The StarSpangled Banner” and the flag that inspired the song’s lyrics will be displayed together at the Smithsonian in Washington, the first time the historic pieces are believed to have been shown side by side. The manuscript is normally on display at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore and the flag has been at the Smithsonian since the early 1900s. They will be displayed together from Flag Day, June 14, through July 6. The three-week display is the start of celebrations marking 200 years since the song was written on Sept. 14, 1814.

Elvis celebration: Elvis Presley fans have gathered at Graceland, to honor the late rock ‘n’ roll icon’s 79th birthday. Television personality Wink Martindale and Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of former President George W. Bush, attended Wednesday’s celebration at Graceland, Presley’s longtime Memphis home. Presley was born in Tupelo, Miss., on Jan. 8, 1935. He was 42 when he died Aug. 16, 1977.
