Colorado State tips San Jose State

J.J. Avila hit the tying and go-ahead foul shots with 45 seconds left as Colorado State pulled out a 66-64 win at San Jose State on Wednesday night.

Jaleel Williams’ layup with a little more than a minute remaining gave the Spartans (6-9, 0-3 Mountain West) a 61-60 edge. Avila was fouled on the ensuing possession. He led the Rams (10-6, 1-2) with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

San Jose State’s Rashad Muhammad came off the bench to score a gamehigh 28 points. He went 7-for-8 from the field, including 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. #15 Colorado 71, Washington State 70: Josh Scott scored eight of his 19 points in overtime as the Buffaloes (14-2, 3-0 Pac-12) won in Spokane, Wash. … Dexter Kernich-Drew scored 24 points for the Cougars (7-8, 0-3).

Washington 59, Utah 57: Delon Wright, a CCSF alum who’s the younger brother of former Warriors swingman Dorell Wright, scored 27 points but missed a three-point try at the buzzer as the visiting Utes (12-3, 1-2 Pac-12) fell to the Huskies (10-6, 2-1). #4 Wisconsin 95, #23 Illinois 70: The host Badgers (16-0, 3-0 Big Ten) used a 20-0 run in the first half to blitz the Illini (13-3, 2-1). #6 Wichita State 66, Illinois State 47: The host Shockers (16-0, 3-0 Missouri Valley) extended both the longest winning streak and best start to a season in program history by holding the Redbirds (8-7, 1-2) to 27 percent shooting (18-for-55). #8 Villanova 83, Seton Hall 67: Darrun Hilliard had 19 points and the visiting Wildcats (14-0, 3-0 Big East) hit 12 three-pointers to beat the Pirates (10-6, 1-2) for the 11th time in the past 12 meetings. #10 Florida 74, South Carolina 58: Scottie Wilbekin scored 17 points before getting helped to the locker room with a sprained right ankle, and the Gators (12-2, 1-0) won their sixth straight and tied a school record by winning their 24th consecutiv­e home game. … Wilbekin, a senior point guard, badly sprained the same ankle Dec. 2 at Connecticu­t. #11 Oklahoma State 87, Texas 74: Markel Brown had 27 points and Marcus Smart had 24 as the host Cowboys (13-2, 1-1 Big 12) dusted the Longhorns (11-4, 0-2). #13 San Diego State 69, Boise State 66: The host Aztecs (13-1, 2-0 Mountain West) led by 13 with five minutes remaining and then held off the Broncos (11-4,1-1). #14 Kentucky 85, Mississipp­i State 63: James Young scored 26 points and the host Wildcats (11-3, 1-0 SEC) shot 65 percent in the second half

Virginia 62: Odyssey Sims scored a careerhigh 48 points and set a Baylor record for career three-pointers in leading the visiting Bears (13-1, 3-0 Big 12). … Sims had a career-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. … The Mountainee­rs (13-2, 2-1), had their winning streak ended at 13 games. … Sims made six three-pointers and has 201 for her career.

Portland 72, #24 USD 51: Cassandra Brown scored 18 points as the host Pilots (9-6, 2-2) dusted the Toreros (15-1, 4-1), who got 28 points from Felicia Wijenberg. Colorado State 101, San Jose State 60: The host Rams (11-3, 3-0 Mountain West) got double-doubles from Elin Gustavsson (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Ellen Nystrom (11 points, 14 boards) and routed the Spartans (6-8, 0-3), who got a double-double from Jasmine Smith (22 points, 13 rebounds).
