Sacramento International Sportsmen’s Expo
What: Northern California’s only major fishing, hunting and boating show, and the biggest show of its kind in the Western U.S.
When: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Where: Cal Expo (for GPS use 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento).
The buzz: The Sportsmen’s Expo is a mammoth fishing, hunting, boating and travel event with five buildings, roughly 500 exhibitors, 200 seminars and numerous demonstration areas. It is expected to draw 40,000 to 50,000 people.
Cost: $15 admission, under 16 free, active military with ID card free. $10 parking.
Highlights: Free seminars on all phases of fishing, hunting; fishing, hunting outfitters and guides, gear; boats, motors; travel vacation, lodges, resorts; electronics; RVs and campers; apparel and optics; wildlife and fishing art; trucks, trailers, ATVs, motorcycles; splash dogs, retriever demos; trophy deer display; aquarium demo tank; flyfishing instruction, all levels. Participate: 3D Pop-Up archery range and contest; calling, casting contests; ATV test track.
Youth Fair: The Youth Outdoors Sports Fair, with hands-on participation and gear giveaways, will take place in Building D, 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Hall of Fame: The California Outdoors Hall of Fame will induct this year’s honorees at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the California Sportsmen’s Theater.
Chronicle booth: I will appear Saturday afternoon in The San Francisco Chronicle’s booth, No. 3233 in the main pavilion.
