Minnesota trades Correia to Dodgers

-

The Twins traded former Giants righthander Kevin Correia to the Dodgers for a player to be named or cash Saturday night.

Correia is 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA this season. The Cal Poly alum spent his first six big-league seasons (2003-08) with San Francisco, then spent two each with San Diego, Pittsburgh and Minnesota.

The Twins will call up left-hander Tommy Milone from Triple-A Rochester to start Monday at Houston. Milone was acquired from the A’s on July 31 after he requested to be moved following a stint in the minors.

Milone went 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over 11 starts with Oakland before he was demoted July 5 following the trade for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs. L.A.’s Ramirez out: Shortstop Hanley Ramirez had an MRI exam on his sore right rib cage and missed the Dodgers’ game at Milwaukee.

Ramirez felt tightness in his right side during a pregame session in the batting cage Friday night, but tried to play through the pain.

Ramirez batted fourth in the lineup and walked in the first inning. After talking with Dodgers manager Don Mattingly in the dugout, Ramirez was removed as a precaution in the bottom half.

Mattingly said it sounded like an “obliquetype” injury. The tests are expected to indicate whether there is swelling or bleeding.

Ramirez is batting .277 with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs in 100 games this season. O’Neill honored: The Yankees thanked the player dubbed “The Warrior” by owner George Steinbrenner, honoring Paul O’Neill before their game against Cleveland with a plaque to be placed in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium.

“He was part of the glue that held this thing together,” former Yankees manager Joe Torre said. “He was relentless.”

O’Neill helped the Yankees win four World Series championships and an additional AL pennant from 1996 to 2001.

In nine years in New York, the right fielder hit .303 with 185 homers and 858 RBIs. He won the 1994 batting title with a .359 average in a strikeshortened season and made four All-Star teams.

Briefly: The Yankees placed catcher Brian McCann on the sevenday concussion list a day after he was hit in the facemask by a foul ball. … The White Sox placed center fielder Adam Eaton on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique and recalled outfielder Jordan Danks from Triple-A Charlotte. … With catcher-first baseman Brayan Peña limited by a sore left hamstring, Cincinnati called up catcher Tucker Barnhart from Triple-A Louisville.
