NEW ROLES TAILOR-MADE AT SCHOOL
Alterations at San Francisco's Academy of Art University have led to new roles for two top officials, with renowned illustrator Gladys Perint Palmer moving out of the fashion school to become an executive vice president of artistic development, and Simon Ungless (above with Sarah Burton) becoming executive director of the school of fashion as of Aug. 1. They’ve worked together at the school since 1996, when Palmer recruited Ungless from their alma mater — Central Saint Martins in London. Ungless, who in the 1990s designed textiles for his friend Lee Alexander McQueen, and is a fashion designer in his own right, said his chief priority is creating four degrees in fashion business, marketing and branding, to better prepare students for jobs in the industry.
