JUST BACK FROM: PRAGUE AND VIENNA
Why we went: To experience the beautiful Baroque architecture, classical music, and, of course, the Sachertorte with our sons. Don’t miss: Palmenhaus Cafe — excellent food, next to the butterfly house in Burggarten Park, Vienna. Don’t bother: Crossing the Charles Bridge in Prague at any time other than very early in the morning or late at night. Too many tourists. Coolest souvenir: Hand-painted, hollow egg ornaments from Prague; and tea tins from Vienna. Worth a splurge: The “Taste of Prague,” a culture-and-food walking tour with locals who take you off the usual tourist route. Wish we’d packed: A warm hat for Prague. Other comments: Next time, we will spend more time in Austria and get out into the countryside.
