Eleanor Roosevelt, a class act
Regarding Ruthe Stein’s story about the play “Hick: A Love Story” depicting the bond between Eleanor Roosevelt and reporter Lorena Hickok (“Intimate look at historical relationship,” July 6): No surprise, as FDR’s relationships were well known but not reported. And Eleanor always had lots of women friends. She was an extraordinary person.
She was the one who called Harry Truman to let him know that FDR had died and ask what she could do for Truman. And when she died, every major Democratic politician — including President Kennedy and Vice President LBJ — attended her funeral. She was held in much regard after World War II, especially in the New York area. Thanks.
