Frances Jeanette Asselin, formerly Hughes and maiden name of Graf, passed away in Lafayette, CA on September 1, 2014, due to lung cancer. She was born on July 30, 1932 in Moreland, Kansas, to her parents Bonaventur­e and Katherine Graf. She lived in San Anselmo and San Rafael where she raised her four children from her first marriage. Eight years later she married the love of her life, James Henry Asselin and they settled in Terra Linda/San Rafael. Together, they enjoyed golf, traveling and lots of family, as Jim brought 3 children to Fran’s family! Fran continued her career with Pac Bell during her marriage with Jim and retired after 25 years of service. They enjoyed 30 years of loving marriage until Jim passed away in December 2001.

Fran is survived by her children Victoria HughesBoyd, Linda Rogers and spouse Jeffrey, beloved son David Hughes and spouse Kathy Abell, Cynthia Granton and spouse Milton, Cheryl Davis and spouse Richard, Jeanette Asselin and her spouse Ranen Sherman, James Asselin and his spouse Karen; her grandchild­ren Miles Boyd, Jake Hughes, Anton and Laura Davis, Ellen, James Parker and Zechariah Asselin; grandchild Summer Rogers and her son (Fran’s great grandchild), Kai Rogers.

Fran is remembered fondly for her strength of character, for being our “hero”, for her love , fierce devotion to her family, her kindness, patience and compassion for others, her love of “cribbage”, outlet shopping, music, dance, reading, and her fondness for animals (especially “Larry”). During certain evenings, you could catch her glued to her TV, watching her favorite programs: American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, Shark Tanks, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune!

Memorial services will be held on September 20, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery-Mortuary, 2500 5th Avenue, San Rafael, CA, (415) 459-2500. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fran’s Life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Associatio­n, Marin County.
