Shirley peacefully passed August 2nd from a stroke with her family by her side. Born in Berkeley, CA on February 12, 1938 residing in Castro Valley, CA for 56 years, Shirley attended Hayward High School where she met her husband Les. They have been married for 61 years and raised four children. Active in Boy and Girl Scouts, PTA, Soroptimis­t, Children’s Hospital while raising children she then went to work for Kaiser Hospital, Hayward, CA as a physical therapy aid until her retirement. Shirley was always thinking about her next trip living her hopes as a young woman that were inspired by her readings of Pearl S. Buck. Her journeys took her to China, Japan and Korea where her son Scott married Ok Son, the Caribbean where she brought back 20 conch shells for all of her friends. She loved fashion which lead her to Paris and at a later time a personal meeting with Oscar de la Renta. Victoria, Canada where her ancestors were some of the original map setters. From Europe to Asia she traveled most of the world along with managing her way to the 1977 Raiders Super Bowl Victory and after party. She was inspired by nature backpackin­g the Sierras and loved spending time in Yosemite. Summers were spent at their second home, Lake of the Pines. Auburn, CA where the grandchild­ren, nieces and grandnephe­w got to experience golf cart deer hunts. Her door was always open to neighborho­od kids, friends and family. She loved to entertain always with an optimist positive thought to share. Survived by her husband Les, sons Lester and Matt, daughter Loanne, deceased son Scott, daughter in laws Ok Son Kuller, Anita Kuller, brother in law John Olarte, niece Chantel Olarte, great nephew Cameron Greenhaw along with grandchild­ren Sophia, Jessica, Allison and Danielle Kuller. She will always be remembered for being kind to people and she will be missed. Memorial service to be held September 20th, 11 am at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary 21228 Redwood Road Castro Valley. Immediatel­y following, a luncheon at Willow Park Event Center in Castro Valley hosted by The Kuller Family. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Sierra Club or a charity of your choice would be appreciate­d.
