Janet Elizabeth Roberts

-

Janet Elizabeth Roberts died peacefully on September 5, 2014 in San Francisco. Janet was born in Palo Alto on November 26, 1947. She was a smart, confident woman. She could beat anyone present in the room at “Jeopardy.” She had a great love of San Francisco where her great, great grandmother was born on Kearny St. in 1859.

Her degree in Education served her well as she found her way to Matson Navigation in 1973, first in San Francisco, then in Oakland. She always loved ships and her training in Education was perfect for her several positions with the company, including Manager of Freight Operations and her final position as Fleet Scheduler. She was a pioneer for women in business, being the first female salesperson for Matson. She retired in 2010. Janet was the youngest daughter of Arthur Francis Roberts and Barbara Murphy Roberts. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Arthur Roberts. She is survived by her sister, Judith Roberts Costin; sister-in-law, Janet Crist Roberts Purcell; niece, Anne Costin; nephews, Jeffrey (Patty) Roberts, Gregory Roberts and David (Lisa) Roberts. She is also survived by great nieces and great nephews: Rachel, Matthew, Abigail, and Ethan Roberts.

Janet is dearly remembered as kind, generous, funny, and a devoted “Giants” fan and animal lover. As per her request, no service is planned. Please honor her memory through the charity of your choice in the name of Janet Elizabeth Roberts.
