San Francisco Village helps seniors find support, community
“To be honest, I never really thought much about aging. But one day, when I stopped for a minute and took a realistic look atmy surroundings, I noticed that, not only was I growing older, but also that my social network was diminishing. I was retired from my job as an educator, my children had moved away from San Francisco, and I felt like there was a significant hole in my life. Luckily for me, I found San Francisco Village right here inmy own neighborhood.”— Ralph B., San Francisco Village member.
For many older San Franciscans, like Ralph, San Francisco Village has become a trusted ally in helping them navigate the many transitions of getting older.
San Francisco Village is a community-based solution that relies on multiple generations
San Francisco Village builds community by offering programs that enrich our members’ lives.
to support its members’ well-being. Volunteers come fromall walks of life— Village members fromtwo dozen San Francisco neighborhoods, public agencies, local businesses, professionals and service providers— and they are all eager to contribute to their community’s social capital. Our growing network is committed to cultivating the social connections that link Village members with the resources necessary to remain safe, social and independent in the homes and neighborhoods they enjoy.
Through a unique, grassroots approach to traditional public health services, San Francisco Village builds community by offering programs that enrich our members’ lives, while also providing the services that allow them to navigate the transition of aging, including transportation, home repair, companionship and other daily chores.
We’ve also created several Neighborhood Circles in different parts of the city so that neighbors can become better-acquainted and more likely to call on one another for support.
We invite you to attend one of our upcoming community meetings to learn more about San Francisco Village and our mission of helping older San Franciscans remain in the homes and communities they love.
