Our beloved Mother, Josephine Crewse died peacefully on December 10, 2014, in Pleasant Hill, CA. She was 92 years of age. She was predeceased by: her parents, Mary & Natale Merlo; her siblings, Richard Merlo, Florence Orr, Vivian Swarts, Robert Merlo, and her first husband, Joseph Delfino.

She is survived by: her husband of 45 years, William (Sam) Crewse; her brother, Nat Merlo, (Shirley); her four daughters, JoAnn Delfino, Janice Delfino Lee, (Bob Lee), Jacky Delfino, & Joyce Delfino; her six grandchildren: Joe, Shawn & Tiffany Furrer, and Matthew, Jennifer, & Zachary Lee.

Our Mother was proud of her San Francisco roots, growing up in the Portola District, (“The Road”), her Italian heritage, and most of all, her family. She will be remembered by her family and very loyal friends for: her quick wit and sense of humor; her home cooked Italian dinners of ravioli,, gnocchi and gravy that warmed the hearts and filled the stomachs of all with much love for her, and bring to mind her holiday celebrations, her compassion and friendship.

We thank all friends & family members who stayed in contact with her during the past year, bringing her joy with their frequent calls & joyful cards. We also thank Tender Heart Home Care and Gracian Home who helped our Mother with excellent care and support.

Our Mother passed away prior to meeting her first Great Grandson, Trace, who arrived with his parents from NYC, on a prearranged trip, less than a day after her passing. Although disappointed, we were reminded that the circle of life continues & though there may be sadness there can also be joy, as we recognize the continuation of love that binds us all.

Donations in Josephine’s memory can be made to the Salvation Army, (SF), or Hanna’s Boy’s Home, Sonoma County, or to a charity of your choice. At Josephine’s request, there will be no service.
