Marian K. Dorian, beloved, sister, mother, grandmothe­r and friend, passed away peacefully on December 19 at age 91. She is survived by her son Mark Dorian, her daughter Danielle Dorian Vogt, her son-in-law Robert Vogt and 5 grandchild­ren; Kayla, Brandon, Jenna, Maritza and Dorian and her two younger brothers, Martin Gabriel and Ara Kaprielian. She was born in Fresno, CA. on May 24, 1923 to Zarouhi and Mardiros Kaprielian. At 5 years old, she began taking piano lessons and continued to play for the enjoyment of others until shortly before her passing. In Jr. High, her family moved to San Francisco where she attended Everrett Jr. High and then Girls High School. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a certificat­e for Elementary Education and a Special Secondary in Music. She began her teaching career in Patterson, CA. as a music teacher to grades 4-8. She married Garo Nishan Dorian in August of 1947. She was a schoolteac­her by profession and taught elementary school for over 28 years. After retirement, she threw herself into volunteer work; mainly for the San Francisco Symphony League as a do- cent educating school-age children’s understand­ing of the symphony and instrument­s performed. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, church board member and volunteer for her Armenian Apostolic Church. She adored her family, loved crossword puzzles, pianoplayi­ng, historical romance novels and had an immense appreciati­on for the arts; ballet, symphony and opera. Her “Celebratio­n of Life” reception will be on January 2 at 11:30am at Three Restaurant, 50 E. 3rd Ave. in San Mateo.
