Anne Searcy, M.D.
Died December 19, 2014 in Oakland, California. She was born June 17, 1953 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Alan Winn Searcy and Gail Searcy. Anne is survived by her life partner Marilyn Kecso, her sister Gay Searcy, Ph. D. of California and brother William Searcy, Ph. D. of Florida.
Anne loved her family, including the furry family members. She was an avid fan of film festivals, enjoyed golfing, walking, running and exercise in general.
Dr. Searcy received her B.A. from UC San Diego and M.D. from UC Davis and was a Board Certified Family Medical Physician. She was a physician for the Ensemble Medical Group from 2001 to 2003 and served as medical director for the East Bay Occupational Medicine Association from 1989 to 1995. In 1995, she reduced her practice time to join the Department of Industrial Relations. She was appointed as the Executive Medical Director of the Division of Workers’ Compensation Medical Unit by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2006 after having served as associate medical director. In her capacity as Executive Medical Director, she managed the division’s medical and health-related programs, including development of treatment guidelines, fee schedules, and management of the qualified medical evaluator, medical provider network, utilization review, health care organization and spinal surgery second opinion programs and chaired the DWC Medical Evidence Evaluation Advisory Committee. She also supervised studies related to workers’ compensation medical services as well as analyzed and implemented new legislation and policies in conjunction with the DWC administrative director.
She joined Zenith Insur- ance Company in December of 2008 as a Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in Medical Management. At Zenith, she guided the provision of optimal medical services through development of various programs, utilization review processes and physician oversight and education. She engaged in research to develop new programs for continual improvement of services and was integral in the development of Zenith’s pharmacy benefit programs and delivery systems.
Dr. Searcy was a respected leader in the workers’ compensation industry, spoke frequently at educational events and served as a Member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine; Member of the Board of Directors and the Legislative Committee of the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association; Member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Member of the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Medical Data Research Committee. Most recently she participated on the DWC MEEAC, Strength of Evidence Committee.
