Tasty deals for California Restaurant Month

-

If you’ve seen a restaurant in your travels that you’ve always wanted to try, this is the month to do it. More than 30 destinations are creating prix-fixe menus, wine pairings and other special offers at reduced prices for a week or more in January for California Restaurant Month, now in its fifth year. Some have special themes, such as Mendocino County’s Crab, Wine & Beer Festival ( Jan. 16-25), Pasadena’s everpopular Cheeseburger Week ( Jan. 11-16) and Santa Monica’s Eat Well Week ( Jan. 4-11). Vitals: Jan. 1-31. See website for specific dates and locations throughout California. (916) 4444429. www.dineinca.com.

Night at the Museum: Though the exhibits are likely to be better behaved than those in the movies, sleep will be last on the list for San Diego’s Ruben H. Fleet Science Center’s 2015 public sleepovers. Guests will spend the night viewing the exhibitions, watching a movie on the Giant Dome screen, attending educational workshops and competing in a scavenger hunt. Admission also includes continental breakfast. Reservation required. 6:15 p.m. Feb. 28 (later dates to be announced). $55. For children ages 6-13. Down to earth in Healdsburg: Now riding high as the gateway to Wine Country, Healdsburg shifts the emphasis to its farmtown roots for the winter. Hands-on Healdsburg presents 50 days of workshops on such endeavors as mushroom foraging, pruning and propagation, meditation, biodynamic gardening, flower arranging and creative writing, along with some spirits tasting and wine pairing for good measure. Jan. 10-Feb. 28. See website for specific dates, locations and prices. (707) 433-6935. www.healdsburg.com.
