A long time resident of San Francisco, passed peacefully at home on January 18, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Devoted husband to wife Kei Yamagami, beloved father of four sons: Stephen McInerney of Anacortes, Washington, wife Linda and two children Daniel and Nicole; Brian McInerney of Tiburon and son Robert; David McInerney of Los Gatos, wife Barbara and children Declan and Fiona; and Mark McInerney of Redwood City, wife Tami and sons Kevin and Connor. Peter is remembered with love by his sister Maura Doddy and brother in law Eugene of Templeogue, Ireland and four children.

Born in Dublin County, Ireland on September 3, 1936, to the late Stephen and Annie McInerney. Peter attended Trinity College then immigrated to the USA in the 1950’s. He settled in San Francisco where he met his first wife Maureen and raised four sons. Peter worked for Bechtel Corp and for a national security and safe company, retiring as VP/General Manager in 1980. Peter loved playing soccer, handball, and was an avid sailor enjoying the waters of San Francisco Bay. He enjoyed reading, traveling, fine food and wine, and chatting with friends and family. He was a kind and loving grandpa to his 7 grandchild­ren and loved following their sports games and other adventures. His friends and family will miss his wit, optimism, strength, charisma and his indomitabl­e spirit which had a positive impact on everyone who knew him. He loved helping others with their challenges and had the “gift of gab” which was truly memorable and will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on February 6th at 12:30pm at St. Dominic’s Church in San Francisco, followed by a Memorial at the Saint Francis Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Peter McInerney to the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Associatio­n.
