Irene Kay Haque Michels

Feb. 15, 1986 – Jan. 27, 2015

Resident of Saratoga At the age of 28, Irene Kay Haque Michels, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 27th, 2015, at her parents’ home in Saratoga, California. At the time of her passing, Irene was surrounded by her loving husband, her 5-month old son, her parents, and her sisters.

Irene was born on February 15th, 1986, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Promod and Dorcas Haque. She graduated from Valley Christian High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Biola University and her Master’s degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University.

Irene lived in the Bay Area for over 15 years, most recently living in San Francisco with her husband, Thys Andries Michels and newborn son, Hunter Roy Michels. Irene was living her dream of working as a software engineer and enjoying her marriage and newborn son. Weeks after her son’s birth in August of 2014, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and fought bravely to the end.

Irene is survived by her husband Thys Andries Michels, her son Hunter Roy Michels, her parents Promod and Dorcas Haque, her sisters Natalie Joy Cochran and Audrey Emma Haque, her nephews Kaden Eli Cochran and Crew Wesley Cochran, and her niece Chloe Ava Cochran. She is also survived by her maternal grandfather, Wesley Carl Daniels, and her paternal grandmother, Evelyn Haque. Her paternal grandfather, Alexander Haque and maternal grandmother, Joy Daniels, preceded her in death. Irene also leaves behind many treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb 7th, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Church at 16330 Los Gatos Blvd, Los Gatos, California.

A college scholarship fund has been set up in her name at Biola University and donations in her name can be made via designation of “Irene K. Michels Scholarship Fund”.

Flower delivery hours for the memorial service are Friday, Feb 6th from 11am2pm and Saturday, Feb 7th from 11am-12pm.
