Jim L. Woodson, 75, of Atherton, California, passed away peacefully in his home on January 3, 2015.

Jim had resided on the Peninsula for over 45 years, the last 35 in Atherton.

He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son of Bernard and Edna Woodson, on February 22, 1939. An excellent student and outstanding athlete, he graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Panama High School and won a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University. He was eternally loyal and grateful to OSU where he received a BS in Industrial Engineering and then achieved double Master’s degrees in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. He credited the education he received at the school for much of his success in life.

Jim began his career in Texas, then moved to England, and Florida and finally to California, where he spent over 40 years as a developer of innovative, quality residential real estate.

Jim loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and traveled the world in his hunting adventures. He shared his love of the outdoors with many of his daughter’s friends, generously introducing them to fishing and camping for their first time. He was a father figure to many, always offering wise advice and support but never judging.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Darlene, and daughter Lindsey Brill, son-in-law Scott, and two grandsons, Andrew and Austin. He leaves many lifelong friends, all of whom remember him as a kind, respectful, humble, and loving man. Described as “The Last True Gentleman”, his smiling, gracious presence was much admired. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A member of The Menlo Circus Club for 27 years, Jim was also an Honorary Board member of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. He supported Stanford Football and was a regular at the home games and tailgate parties, often attending three or four at a single game.

A Celebration of Life will be later this spring.

In memory of Jim, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of San Francisco, 1275 Fairfax Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94124 or www.mowsf.org/donate.
